Hangzhou’s West Lake Friendship Awards

There were 35 foreign experts receiving the West Lake Friendship Award, on Oct 11, courtesy of the Zhejiang provincial government, for contributing to the province, with the deputy governor, Xiong Jianping, taking part and handing out the honors at an awards ceremony, in the city of Hangzhou.
Xiong expressed his gratitude and noted that Zhejiang has long considered the help of foreign experts very important and, that their support has helped the economy grow. Xiong went on to say that the province will continue to develop projects to attract talented people and will have policies to improve their work and lives in China.
The 35 winners were from 16 countries, with 23 of them working in economics and technical fields, and 12 in culture and education.
The West Lake Friendship Award is the province’s highest honor for foreign experts there and a way of showing its appreciation for their contribution to economic and social development. At least 500 have received the award since it was introduced in 1997, and 35 getting a National Friendship Award.
