When China’s State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs held a press conference for its “Foreign teacher and I” essay in Beijing on December 11, to solicit stories from both Chinese students and foreign teachers nationwide, it brought in the administration’s deputy head, Liu Yanguo, the head of its international professionals research center, Chen Huabei, the editor-in-chief of International Talent magazine, Liang Boshu, and the president of Maple Leaf Education Systems, Ren Shuliang, on hand for the event.

Liu explained that the essay contest is a way to increase communications with foreign teachers and Chinese students as China integrates more with the international community and the outside world and that he places great hopes on it, because, “Cooperation in education links China with other countries, and helps them better understand each other.”

This particular contest has been held four times since 2011 and has drawn the attention of Chinese students, foreign teachers and groups, with a total of 26,139 submissions. The function of this year’s session is to tell China story to the world and promote Sino-foreign friendships to attract more foreign experts. It is soliciting essays from 8,000 schools nationwide with foreign teachers, including photographic works.

There will be an awards ceremony in May 2016. Also at the press conference, the administration signed a cooperation agreement with Maple Leaf Education Systems.
