Zhang Jianguo, administrator of the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, recently led a survey group to Yunnan to inspect related work.

The survey group visited the provincial demonstration base of foreign expert work—the Red Pear Industrialization Base of Yunnan Red Pear Technology Development Company -- and learned about kiwi fruit technology introduced from New Zealand. The survey group held a meeting with some experts from New Zealand working in Yunnan.

Shu Qun, president of Red Pear company, said that the company has been working with New Zealand experts since 1999 on cultivating red pears. The pears were sold to Europe, Singapore, and Malaysia in 2003 and 2004. The company has employed 53 foreign experts, and introduced advanced management philosophy from other countries. An agricultural technology demonstration park will be built to promote the red pear industry in Yunnan.

Lewei William Dagger from New Zealand spoke of his life in Yunnan, and offered his advice on the province’s agricultural development. He also thanked the Yunnan government for its help and support in his life and work there.

The demonstration park introduced 22 new varieties of fruit trees, and produced five new techniques in fruit cultivation and quality control.
