“Wonderful!” “Look how clever he is!” “It doesn’t matter” “Try it again” “I believe you can do it” “Cheer up!” Foreign teachers offered these and other helpful expressions to their English students in Conghua, Guangzhou.

“Foreign experts charity trip—teaching activities in Conghua”, a four-week charity activity in Guangzhou, was launched on July 2. This is the second time the Guangzhou Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs has organized a “Foreign experts charity trip” activity. This year’s covered 15 schools and more than 400 students. Many media reported the activity, and students and teachers spoke highly of it.

Foreign teachers used body language, cadenced tones, interesting questions, and humorous speeches to communicate with students. Group competitions, outdoor games, and prize quizzes allowed students to learn while having fun. A student said in his letter of thanks “Every class is filled with laughter, and I realized how interesting it is to learn English”.

Chinese teachers also learned a lot from this activity. “I thought about my own teaching style after watching foreign teachers’ methods. I should learn to communicate better with my students and improve my own language in teaching”, said one teacher. “Foreign teachers are passionate about teaching, and they are patient with students. They love, encourage, and appreciate students,” said another teacher, “We need to learn from these foreign teachers.”

Foreign teacher Tom said “I am glad to take part in this program and meet more students.” A parent said to a foreign teacher in a thank-you note, “Kids love you and your lessons. The art of teaching is not passing on knowledge, but encouraging, awakening, and inspiring.”
