The award ceremony of the 6th “Me and my foreign teacher” writing competition was held at Peking University in Beijing on May 13. More than 350 government workers, award winners and foreign teachers attended the event.

Lu Ming, deputy administrator of the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, said that more and more foreign experts are coming to China to work since the start of the 12th Five-Year Plan. More than 620,000 foreign experts came to China in 2015, 230,000 of whom work in education. A series of high-end projects, including the “1000 Talent Plan” and the ”talent introduction plan in universities for innovation”, have brought a large number of high-level foreign experts to China. Schools around China have also recruited many excellent foreign teachers.

The “Me and my foreign teacher” writing competition has been held six times. The “China in foreign teachers’ eyes” photography exhibition has been held four times, and there have been five “Road for international talents” forums. These activities are welcomed by Chinese students and foreign teachers alike.
The writing competition received more than 5,800 articles from 31 provinces; the photography exhibition received more than 1,000 photographs from over 300 foreign experts from 35 countries.
Lu Ming presented 10 awards at the ceremony. Sir James Fraser Stoddart, Nobel Prize winner in chemistry in 2016, attended the ceremony and delivered a speech on his road to the Nobel Prize.
