A symposium of the 21st China Beijing International High-tech Expo was held on May 18. More than 1,000 delegates from Chinese and foreign governments, the sci-tech filed and the industry in Beijing joined the event.

Xia Mingjiu, deputy administrator of the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs (SAFEA), said that China attaches great importance to technological innovation. Innovation is the primary driving force for development and the strategic support for a modern economic system.

In recent years, thanks to the joint efforts of the national scientific and technological community, China's basic sciences have witnessed many breakthroughs; scientific and technological achievements have been rapidly transformed, and innovation and entrepreneurship have flourished.

Major scientific and technological achievements have effectively supported China's economic and social development, and have also made positive contributions to the advancement of the world's science and technology and human civilization.

In the future, China will actively integrate into the global innovation network with a more open attitude, and strengthen scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation with other countries in resources, the environment, the economy, and security, so that technological innovation will become a new engine for common prosperity and development, Xia added.

Xia said that this year's High-tech Expo takes "construction of China's science and technology innovation center" as its theme, and serves as a practical move to promote the innovation-driven development strategy.

It is a platform where outstanding Chinese and foreign government organizations, scientific research institutes, and well-known enterprises can display outstanding scientific and technological achievements, and promote their transformation.

Beijing, the host city of the Expo, is a pioneer in China's innovation and development. In recent years, Beijing has implemented an innovation-driven development strategy and accelerated the establishment of a national science and technology innovation center, which has achieved remarkable results.

The 21st Beijing International High-tech Expo was launched on May 17. It has 45,000 square meters of exhibitions, 10 forums and 12 rounds of promotion activities, focusing on new achievements by China in implementing innovation-driven strategies.

International organization leaders, well-known experts and domestic and foreign scholars, as well as entrepreneurs, discussed topics of open sharing, green development, artificial intelligence, smart cities and other hot topics with a focus on a group of key projects of integrated production and research and development of science and technology.

More than 1,600 enterprises, three international organizations including United National Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and 56 delegations from 46 countries and regions, as well as more than 20 provincial regions of China, participated in the conference.
