SAFEA and IEEE to enhance cooperation on tech and talent exchange

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) of the United States sent a delegation to the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs (SAFEA), on May 30.

Xia Mingjiu, deputy administrator of SAFEA, met with Stephen Welby, executive director-general and chief operating officer of the IEEE, and the two sides held talks on personnel exchange and technical cooperation between China and the US.

Xia introduced the basic situation of institutional reform in China and the main functions of the Ministry of Science and Technology.

He said that the newly formed Ministry of Science and Technology attaches great importance to international talent exchanges and scientific and technological cooperation, and is willing to carry out extensive and pragmatic cooperation with the IEEE in areas such as science and technology education. He said that in the future he wishes that both parties can further strengthen communication and deepen efficient cooperation.

Stephen introduced the basic situation of the IEEE and the major exchange activities with China in recent years. He said that the IEEE will share its resources with China in science and technology publications, databases, industry standards, and science and technology education.

The two sides exchanged views on topics such as artificial intelligence, big data, and blockchain, and expressed that they will conduct in-depth discussions on the cooperation of experts introduction and education.
