Call for Papers for the 4th International Symposium on Soft Science

In order to promote the theoretical research and practical activity of innovation, the Association for Soft Science of China sponsors the 4th International Symposium on Soft Science (4th ISSS), which will be held in November 2006. The theme of the symposium will be "Innovative Nation: Theory and Practice". The call for relevant papers for the conference is now launched.

Announcement

The 4th International Symposium on Soft Science (4th ISSS) will be held in Beijing, P.R. China in November 2006. The sponsor of the symposium is the Association for Soft Science of China (ASSC).

About ASSC

Soft science refers to decision science, management science, policy science and other multi-disciplinary studies related to decision-making at different levels. It employs the theory and methodology of information science, behavior science, system engineering, social engineering and management science. The objects of its studies are complicated social, economic and technical systems. It helps people manage and decide in scientific way with more direct, effective, comprehensive and systematic applications of multi-disciplinary knowledge.

The Association for Soft Science of China (ASSC), founded in December 1994, is a national learned society organized on a voluntary basis by organizations, societies, institutions and enterprises as well as individual experts and scholars in fields of natural sciences, social sciences, engineering and in policy-making organizations at different levels in China that are engaged in soft science research or management work. ASSC is an independent society with legal person status.

To unite all social efforts to promote the development of soft science and the consultancy industry in China; serve reforms and opening-up and economic and social development; promote policy-making process of all kinds at different levels to be more democratic, scientific and normal so that policy-making and its implementation would be more in keeping with the interests of the people.

Past ISSS

1st ISSS

It was held in 17-19 November 1999 in Sanshui, Guangdong, P.R. China. The theme of symposium was Reform and Development Strategies for 21st Century and the topics were: Theories, Methodology and Applications of Modern Management; Sustainable Development in China: Problems and Policies; Industrial Policies for High and New Technique; China and Knowledge Economy; and Globalization and China.

2nd ISSS

It was held in 8-9 April 2002 in Wuhan, Hubei, P.R. China. The theme of symposium was Internet and Management Reform and the topics were: Internet and Enterprise Management; Internet and Government Management; Internet and Decision-Making for Management; and e-Business and Innovation of Management Pattern.

3rd ISSS

It was held in 17-18 November 2004 at Ningbo, Zhejiang, P.R. China. The theme of symposium was Planning and Market and the topics were: Concept of Rational Development and Planning; Modern Planning Theories and Methodologies; Chinese Enterprises: How to Become a Competitive Mainstay in Technical Innovations; Theories and Practices on Learning Organizations; and Industrial Clusters.

Submission

Prospective authors are invited to submit full-length papers by 31 August 2006. The submission of a paper implies that the paper is original and has not been submitted or under review elsewhere (or copyright protected) and will be presented by an author of the paper if accepted. All submitted papers will be refereed by experts in the field based on originality, significance, quality and clarity. The authors of accepted papers will have opportunities to revise their papers and take consideration of the referees' comments and suggestions. The final versions of the accepted papers are due by 30 September 2006. The accepted papers will be included in the Proceedings of 4TH ISSS, to be published after the symposium.

Papers should be submitted electronically or via email to zhoujp@istic.ac.cn. The initial submissions and the final accepted papers should be in the format of Microsoft Word. Paper submission guidelines:

1. Paper Format

Papers should be in one column format and single-spaced. Each paper should not exceed six pages including figures and references. All papers should be written in English, using the Paper Format for the Proceedings of the 4th International Symposium on Soft Science, including all tables, figures, formulae and references.

2. Presentation Mode

The presentation mode of a paper can be oral or poster depending on the preference of the author(s) and quality of the paper. The authors can indicate their preferences on oral or poster presentation in the cover page of the paper.

3. Final Paper Submission

All accepted papers, accompanied by valid registrations, must be received by 30 September 2006, in order for the papers to be included in the Proceedings. Please submit the followings to zhoujp@istic.ac.cn.

a) Printable file of single-sided final (camera-ready) version of the paper which strictly follows the Paper Format for the Paper Format for the Proceedings of the 4th International Symposium on Soft Science.

b) Completed Copyright Form in scanned copy or fax copy. The information in the copyright form include:

Zip all files into a single file with the paper number as the file name. Type "Final Version" and the title of your paper in your mail.

Registration

Each paper must be accompanied by at least one registration and the registration fee must be paid before the meeting. Without a dedicated registration, the paper can not be included in the Proceedings.

For participants for other countries/regions the registration fee is US$200.

The registration fees include symposium attendance, printed proceedings, lunches, dinners, banquet and tours organized by 4th ISSS.
