China-Canada Joint Commission Meeting on S&T Cooperation Held for the 1st time in Ottawa

After the Chinese and Canadian governments signed the S&T cooperation agreement in January 2007, the China-Canada Joint Commission on S&T Cooperation met for the 1st time in Ottawa on 28 May. The meeting was co-chaired by Mr. SHANG Yong, Vice Minister of Science and Technology of China and Mr. Coulombe, President of the National Research Council, Canada.

 

The two parties decided during the meeting to set up work groups in the sectors of energy, environment, health and agriculture and formally launch the foundation for China-Canada governmental technology innovation cooperation. In the coming four years, the Chinese and Canadian governments will jointly invest 10.5 million Canadian dollars to support cooperation in technology innovation and industrialization as well as establish joint R&D centers in key areas.
