Susceptibility Gene to Psoriasis Discovered by Chinese Scientists

Through years of unremitting efforts, Chinese scientists have discovered the susceptibility gene to Psoriasis through whole genome correlation analysis. The findings were published on Nature Genetics. Chief Editor Myles Axton paid a special visit to Anhui Medical University (AMU) in November of 2009. He highly acknowledged the findings.

A research teamwork led by Professor Zhang Xuejun of AMU has been collaborating with Chinese National Human Genome Center at Shanghai with the support of 973 Program and 863 Program. Since 2007, they conducted GWAS by focusing on 15,000 cases of Psoriasis in China, and eventually discovered the susceptibility gene LCE among Han people. The findings are of far-reaching significance to the pathogenesis, prevention and treatment of Psoriasis.
