CAP1400 Passes IAEA Generic Reactor Safety Review

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and Shanghai Nuclear Engineering Research and Design Institute held a meeting on April 27 in Geneva to examine the safety of CAP1400 nuclear reactor. In its report, IAEA concluded that CAP1400’s preliminary safety analysis report has generally lived up to the latest IAEA safety law, regulations and standards.

The safety review has been going on for more than nine months. According to the safety design regulations and standards updated after the Fukushima nuclear disaster, the IAEA examined the integrity and comprehensiveness of the CAP1400 preliminary safety analysis report. Passing the IAEA safety review suggested CAP1400 had earned greater recognition from authoritative international institutions, laying a solid foundation for the nuclear reactor project to enter the international market.
