China and EU signed Administrative Arrangement on a new round of joint research funding

Recently, the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology and the European Commission signed an Administrative Arrangement on a new round of China-EU joint research funding in the form of exchange of written documents through diplomatic channels.

According to the AA, the two sides will jointly fund practical R&D projects between Chinese and European universities, research institutes and enterprises from 2021 to 2024, with a focus on food, agriculture and biotechnology (FAB) and climate change and biodiversity (CCB), in order to tackle global challenges such as climate change and provide scientific and technological solutions to promote carbon neutrality and green & low-carbon development.

The China-EU Co-funding Mechanism was established in 2015. The previous Administrative Arrangement (2018-2020) provided strong support for research personnel from both sides to carry out joint research and exchanges, and produced fruitful outcomes of cooperation.
