On 25 September, SHANG Yong, Vice Minister of Science and Technology, met with visiting US Under-Secretary of Commerce Robert Cresanti and his party in the office building of MOST and hosted a banquet in their honor.

Mr. Cresanti visited China at the invitation of MOST to inspect China's nano research and industrialization. Vice Minister SHANG indicated that US Department of Commerce and MOST have always maintained good cooperative relationship and MOST is willing to cooperate with US Department of Commerce in nano technology in the future. He suggested that the two departments sign documents to promote nano cooperation. Under-Secretary Cresanti gave his consent and said that he would earnestly consider Vice Minister SHANG's suggestion. He also briefed Vice Minister SHANG on the research and industrialization of nano technology in the US.
