China-Brazil High-level Dialogue on S&T and Innovation Held in Beijing

The China-Brazil High-level Dialogue on Science, Technology and Innovation was held in Beijing on April 12, 2011. Brazilian President Rousseff and Chinese Minister of Science and Technology Wan Gang addressed the opening ceremony.

Minister Wan spoke highly of China-Brazil strategic partnership, regarding the science and technology cooperation as the pillar of the bilateral relationship. The collaboration in space technology has become a model for south-south cooperation. Strengthening the bilateral ties in S&T lies in the fundamental interests of the two peoples. China is ready to work with Brazil to address challenges, such as climate change, energy crisis and food security.

President Rousseff praised the economic and scientific achievements made in China. She believed that S&T innovation had great bearing on the sustainable development and the joint efforts of the two countries in this sector could exert long-term and global influence.

This Dialogue was co-sponsored by MOST and its Brazilian counterpart. The topics included two countries’ S&T development, bilateral S&T relation, S&T innovation policy, renewable energy, nanotechnology, information technology, agricultural science, food safety and space technology. With anticipation of a bright future for S&T cooperation, the two sides called for joint efforts to pave the way for more practical cooperation. The two parties also agreed upon holding the second round of dialogue in Brazil at appropriate time.
