On 5 November 2016, Minister of Science and Technology Wan Gang met with the South African delegation led by Minister Naledi Pandor of the Department of Science and Technology, who was in China for the G20 Science, Technology and Innovation Ministers Meeting.
Minister Wan said that the science and technology ministries of the two countries had co-hosted the China-South Africa High-tech Exhibition & Exchange in October and successfully held the sixth meeting of the China-South Africa Joint Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation, which took bilateral cooperation in science and technology to a new level. The two sides should seize the opportunities, strengthen contact, and further enhance bilateral cooperation on joint research, personnel exchanges, science and technology parks and joint research centers as well as multilateral cooperation in such fields as Square Kilometer Array (SKA).
Minister Pandor applauded the fruitful outcomes of scientific and technological cooperation the two countries had achieved over recent years, and expressed the hope to maintain the current momentum of cooperation and deliver the agreement of the two leaders and various programs identified by the Joint Committee to promote the sustainable economic and social development of the two countries.
After the meeting, Minister Wan and Minister Pandor signed the MOU between the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China and the Department of Science and Technology of the Republic of South Africa on Enhancing Science, Technology and Innovation Cooperation.
