Minister Wang Zhigang Meets with WIPO DG Francis Gurry

Minister of Science and Technology Wang Zhigang met with a visiting WIPO delegation headed by Director General Francis Gurry on August 28, 2018.

Minister Wang Zhigang pointed out that China takes innovation as the primary driving force for development, attaches great importance to IP rights, constantly improves the system for IP creation, utilization, protection and management, and creates a sound environment for science and innovation by enhancing the protection of intellectual property rights. Minister Wang stressed that China has accomplished remarkable achievements in IP protection and will further strengthen the use and protection of IP rights and step up external publicity in the future. At the same time, he expressed China's willingness to strengthen cooperation with WIPO and strive to become a model of cooperation between WIPO and its member states. 

Francis Gurry spoke highly of China's efforts and achievements in IP protection and expressed a willingness to introduce China's experience in IP rights protection through the platform of WIPO, enhance China’s international image in IP rights protection. He said that WIPO is willing to further deepen its cooperation with China in innovation index and building of technology and innovation support center.

After the talks, Minister Wang Zhigang and DG Francis Gurry jointly signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China and the World Intellectual Property Organization.

Present at the meeting were DG of International Cooperation Ye Dongbai, DG of Policies, Regulation and Supervision He Defang, DG of Innovation and Development Xu Jing, DDG of International Cooperation Chen Linhao, DG of Torch High Technology Industry Development Center Zhang Zhihong and Vice President of Chinese Academy of Science and Technology for Development Liu Dongmei, and DDG of WIPO Wang Binying and Director of WIPO China Office Chen Hongbing.
